What is ART ?  If we go for the general definition of art, it is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture. It encompasses a diverse range of human activities, creations, and modes of expression, including music, literature, film, sculpture, and paintings and photography. We can also put it in a more simple explanation as something which gives our eyes pleasure, something decorative, beautiful whether by creation of human beings or product of deliberately arranging elements in a way to affect our senses and emotions. For much of its history, philosophy was not merely a theoretical discipline but a way of life, an "art of living”, considering the fact that how we live life like a big canvas having colors of essence.  This way we, our life and the world of art move on. Our world is in true sense an Art in itself. The history of painting reaches back in time to artifacts from pre-historic humans, and spans all cultures. The oldest known paintings are at the Grotte Chauvet in France, claimed by some historians to be about 32,000 years old.

CHINA (Continent Editor Asia) - As the National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBS) reports today, they counted a total of 111 million new subscribers in the year 2010. This pushes the number of subscriptions in China to a stunning 859 million. This converts to a coverage of around 86.5%.

The numbers released in the NBS report also show that the number of fixed lines is continuing to decline and for the first time slipped under the 300 million subscriber mark. I.e the number of mobile phone lines outnumbers the fixed line subscribers by a factor of three (see graphic).

Asia office rents on the rise 27/02/2011

SINGAPORE (by Continent Editor Asia) - This week's conference on corporate real estate, the Asia Office Space, predicted rising rents in the major business hubs across Asia. The biggest increases will be seen in Hong Kong and Singapore.

The main driver in Hong Kong is the lacking supply of grade A office space leading to rents increasing by 17% in the next 12 month (according to a recent report published by Colliers International).

For Singapore, however, the main driver is more grade A office space coming online this year (an estimated 2.8 million sqft). Rents are supposed to increase by 15-20% in 2011 and might reach an average of around 14 S$ by 2012-2013.

This is particularly interesting for international companies who have headquarter operations in Hong Kong. As currently rents are around 30% higher in Hong Kong than in Singapore, it can already be seen that companies are reducing their headcount in Hong Kong and trying to secure bigger office space in Singapore.

According to Colliers International, the 5 most expensive business hubs in Asia are (in order from most expensive to less expensive): Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Sydney and Perth.
