CHINA (Continent Editor Asia) - As the National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBS) reports on the 28th February 2011, they counted a total of 111 million new subscribers in the year 2010. This pushes the number of subscriptions in China to a stunning 859 million. This converts to a coverage of around 86.5%.

The numbers released in the NBS report also show that the number of fixed lines is continuing to decline and for the first time slipped under the 300 million subscriber mark. I.e the number of mobile phone lines outnumbers the fixed line subscribers by a factor of three (see graphic).
