iPad2 Still Nowhere in Sight

Hong Kong - Last week we reported that the iPad2 would be available in Hong Kong on Apr 11, 2011. As it turned out, the product was not to be found at any Apple dealers. Inquiries to the dealers did not result in any clear reply with the sales staff simply saying that the iPad2 was not available in Hong Kong and no availability date had been announced by Apple.

Speculation is ripe that Apple is witholding the iPad2 for sale in Hong Kong due to the unsold inventory of the original iPad. Casual browsing at the Apple Store for Hong Kong shows that four models of the original iPad are still available.

HONG KONG – Apple has just announced that the iPad2 will be available in Hong Kong on Apr 11, 2011. As a result many parallel importers are scrambling to lower their prices accordingly. It will be interesting to see if the price of the original iPad will drop further given that some stocks are still available on the market. So far the price of the original iPad has dropped by about HKD1000 since the announcement of the iPad2 in early March, 2011. Now other manufacturers such as Samsung, LG and Motorola also announced that their latest tablets would also be available sometimes in April, 2011, but no exact date so far.

Column: Social Media (Part II)

With the beginning of Web 2.0 era, one can see that information can be disseminated in a matter of seconds by anyone, anytime anywhere. This capability is unprecedented and has redefined the way information is delivered. It has also allowed anybody to mobilize a large group of people to start a demonstration. Such cases were demonstrated recently in Africa and the Middle East, where authoritarian governments were toppled in a matter of weeks.

Currently there're about 1.9 billion internet users (Source: www.internetworldstats.com). As this number grows, one can foresee many more so called "Butterfly Effect," whereby a small incident could evolve rapidly into something much bigger and cause a change in the world order.
